Abstraction
I think abstract means a picture that emphasises the formal elements rather than the subject. We might not even be able to recognise the subject.
The Formal Elements
Focus:
Light: Line: Repetition: Shape: Space: Texture: Value/Tone: |
Which areas appear clearest or sharpest in the photograph? Which do not?
Which areas of the photograph are brightest? Are there any shadows? Does the photograph allow you to guess the time of day? Is the light natural or artificial? Harsh or soft? Reflected or direct? Are there objects in the photograph that act as lines? Are they straight, curvy, thin, thick? Do the lines create direction in the photograph? Do they outline? Do the lines show movement or energy? Are there any objects, shapes or lines which repeat and create a pattern? Do you see geometric (straight edged) or organic (curvy) shapes? Which are they? Is there depth to the photograph or does it seem shallow? What creates this appearance? Are there important negative (empty) spaces in addition to positive (solid) spaces? Is there depth created by spatial illusions i.e. perspective? If you could touch the surface of the photograph how would it feel? How do the objects in the picture look like they would feel? Is there a range of tones from dark to light? Where is the darkest value? Where is the lightest? |
I decided that I would take photographs of doors because, i know that doors have straight lines on them. the reason why there are so many pictures of different kinds of doors is because my theme is repartition. I decided that I would take photos of the same kind of door but in different blocks. My photographs show the same doors but with posters on them and different objects next to them. I believe that the posters on the doors gave the door character. Another thing that i noticed is that the majority of photos are perpendicular and parallel. My favourite photograph is the picture of the corridor with all the lines are parallel perpendicular.

Photoshop experimentin order to create this picture I needed to to photoshop this image with the layers. I use the tool bar on the left and selected the circle shape to create this image. I decided to change the persons eyes to lips as I thought this would create the illusion that his eyes are closed. I also thought that I would make one of his eyes his mouth as I believed it would create the illusion that his mouth his open .
I am happy with his image because i think it is simple but a powerful abstraction. my next idea is putting peoples ears and mouth and hair and eyes in to my face. |
I took pictures of people and then i then i cut one of them hair, eye, ear, mouth i put them all to my face to create a good abstraction.
I tried the same thing but this time i took pictures of other people and this time i didn't put my face init.
How i did this? I did this by using photoshop i took one photo of me and then got a photo of a assassins and then i put my face in side of the hood i put my photo onto the other layer of the photo i needed to make sure it was the same size so it can fit perfectly. I tried to be a assassins it needs so much skill and technique this is how its a abstraction because no one can be a assassins in the 21 century
I edited the image by using a app called analog I changed the colour and the borders it made the picture look better by changing colour of it because it makes it more colourful to look at and it stands out more.
